How different is Beck’s advocacy from that of the AVODAH alumni?
Beck is used to meeting people and being a leader among others. She differs from AVODAH in that the alumni entered a program to help improve the world for themselves and the people around them, but Beck is more of the kind of person who would start an organization and make personal decisions about how to help people.

Homework #3

I read an article from yesterday (February 20th, 2009) about the opportunity the bay area has to create a shared football arena for both the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders. The article from SJMN (San Jose Mercury News) entitled "Shared turf for 49ers, Raiders?" and written by Mike Swift gave the Giants-Jets Stadium as an example of how the Bay's stadium could be. In detail, Swift described how having one stadium could be both a benefit and a pain by first analyzing NY's deal. The Jets and the Giants- two long last rivals have come together to build one $1.6 billion stadium to house both teams. Though this may sound like a bad idea, a stadium build for all extensive purposes to be neutral is very cost efficient. They are making sure that all components of the stadium will be neutral except for those electronic. Both teams will have their own locker rooms giving the traveling team's locker room to whichever team is visiting. Though disagreements came between both teams about several parts of the arena, final arrangements were made to fit both team’s needs. I think that a similar agreement could be come to for the Niner’s and Raiders even though they, in my opinion, have a much more aggressive rivalry. One of the concerns not brought up in the article, is whether fans will want to travel to the new stadium after having one be just next door for many years now. Plans have been on hold for a couple years now for the 49ers to build one in Santa Clara near where they practice. This would be a fairly nice compromise for both teams seeing as never would have to travel too far to play, though the 49ers may have to move their practice facilities.

In this I am responding to the article by Angelina Karpovich, Ph.D. Candidate, University of Wales, Aberystwyth titled “I Blog, Therefore I Am.” The Paper is on the topic of blogging and the effects of it on her and her blogging friends. In the beginning Karpovich illustrated how she got into blogging and how it corresponds to her other online sites. As a student in pursuit of her Ph.D. she has sites devoted to showing off her credentials, though blogging was something that she could use anonymously to connect to others in the blogging community about her personal life. Though I have very little experience blogging, I have do have a lot of experience reading other’s blogs and commenting on them; I do see useful benefits to having and keeping a blog. I’m a proud user of the one of the most common blogs on the internet: Facebook. Even though I do not usually refer to this as a blog, the idea of writing down an idea, comment, interest, event, picture, or other writing, and having others be able to respond is especially interesting to me. I realized at one point that I do have a lot to offer others, including advice and critique as well as humor to help others out with their daily tasks. I very much enjoy being of assistance to others but I do not make use of this idea of blogging as much as I could. In Karapovich’s paper, she talked about the anonymity of blogging, and how this could be used as an advantage to you, keeping your information safe from the masses. I both enjoy getting random advice from foreign sources, as well as from friends and family- people I know and can trust to make the right calls. I have found that most people who respond to blogs are there to help, and will do so in most cases.
